The American Dream

24 March 2015

Over the course of the last ten days, over 100 players and parents from America have enjoyed the Owls’ hospitality at Middlewood Road.

The soccer group have crossed the pond as part of Wednesday’s ever-growing partnership with Global Image Sports, based in North America.

The visit has taken the form of training, games and presentations, as well as the special guests playing select SWFC academy teams.

In addition, the players enjoyed the experience of a first team matchday at Hillsborough for the Championship clash with Fulham after taking in a full ground tour before the game.

Heading up the project from S6 is Foundation Phase Lead Coach Matt Burton, who said:

“Following on from last year’s successful trips, this tour gone really well.

“The players have had exposure and experience of what it’s like to be an elite footballer at Sheffield Wednesday, with a varied training and games schedule.

“The parents have also seen first-hand what we do at the club.

“The partnership we have with GIS continues to go from strength to strength and both parties aim to keep moving forward.”

Reis Williams from GIS added: “GIS are excited to see the success of the SWFC partnerships in North America.

“From our 15,000 SWFC affiliated players, it’s been great to see the players selected from our regional camps integrated into the academy during this visit.

“We would like to thank Sheffield Wednesday for their hospitality and for providing this type of experience to our young players and families from our Sheffield Wednesday North American Academy partner clubs.”
