The Owls’ Under-18s lost out to high-flying Nottingham Forest in S6 on Tuesday.
Mason Duffy struck his tenth goal of the season to give Wednesday the lead but the hosts were hit by a Forest double that decided the points.
It was the proverbial game of two halves as the Owls dominated the first but the Midlanders responded in kind after the break.
Coach Steven Haslam said: “We started the game really well and it was almost 20 minutes before our goalkeeper touched the ball.
“Mason Duffy scored in that period but I felt we needed to get another goal while we were on top because Forest are a very good side.
“They equalised before half time and grew in confidence and in the second half we were overpowered.
“The game grew a little scrappy but Forest were the better side, although we deserved something out of the game because of our first half performance.”
