Match Report : 03/11/2015

3 November 2015

Wednesday’s unbeaten run stretched to 11 games following a 0-0 draw against Championship leaders Brighton.

Chances were few and far between in a tight encounter that produced plenty of positive football but little by means of an end product.

Essentially, both teams cancelled each other out and a point apiece was probably the right outcome.

A slow start gave way to a Wednesday flurry 20 minutes in – Jack Hunt carved a good opening on the angle and his low drive was deflected wide by David Stockdale.

The Owls went on to dominate possession but Brighton looked dangerous on the break and never more so eight minutes before the break.

Imigo Calderon found room down the right and delivered a perfect ball to the back post where Solly March was lurking for a tap-in only to see Hunt get back just in the nick of time to clear.

Highlights were few in a low-key opening period from a game that needed a spark almost provided straight after the resumption when Baram Kayal unleashed a rocket from range but over the crossbar.

Kieran Lee burst in on goal at the other end before Lewis Dunk stepped in with a timely tackle and Ross Wallace dragged wide as Wednesday upped the ante.

But Brighton were in no mood to crack and again threatened on the counter.

After 73 minutes, Sam Baldock forced Keiren Westwood into a diving save and March was thwarted by Lees from the rebound.

Daniel Pudil smashed a late effort past the post and that was as good as it got in either final third, with two strong and well organised sides showing their impressive credentials of giving little away at the back.

Wednesday: Westwood, Hutchinson, Loovens, Lees, Joao (Nuhiu 55), Lee, Hunt, Wallace (Helan 77), Pudil, Bannan, Forestieri
