Walking football initiative expands

9 November 2015

The club’s Community Programme’s walking football team are on the lookout for new members to join them.

The team, with the players averaging the age of 66, take part in weekly sessions at Concord Sports Centre on Tuesday afternoons, 1:30-2:30pm and Wednesday evenings, 5:30-6:30pm.

The squad made it through to the quarter finals at a tournament earlier this week – a great achievement for the players.

The initiative is designed to help people to keep active and is aimed at getting those back to playing football who had to stop due to injury.

Walking football is non-contact and anyone that sprints, runs or jogs whilst the ball is in play is penalised with a free-kick awarded to the other team.

The sessions are aimed at those over 50 and cost just £2 per hour.
