Wildsmith continues progress with England Under-21s

13 November 2015

Owls goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith has continued his progress this week with the England Under-21s.

The 19-year-old linked back up with the squad last week to train at St George’s Park before flying out to Sarajevo for their first test against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The young Three Lions drew 0-0 in that fixture on Thursday, with Wildsmith an unused substitute.

England now head back to these shores to continue their training schedule at Brighton & Hove Albion’s facilities in Lancing.

The Under-21s face Switzerland at The Amex Stadium on Monday 16 November.

Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal said: “It’s great for Joe and for Sheffield Wednesday.

“We have very talented goalkeepers at the club and I am very happy with them. Keiren Westwood is a fantastic goalkeeper and Joe will be a fantastic goalkeeper too.

“I must give credit to Andy Rhodes for the work he has done with the goalkeepers.

“We like to see our players with their country because it is good for the player and the club and shows they are playing well. That’s what we want and hopefully we will have more of our players do the same in the future.”
