Academy product pens pro deal

29 October 2015

Warren Clarke has become the latest Owls academy product to sign his first professional contract at Hillsborough.

The bustling midfielder has put pen to paper on a deal that will run until June 2018.

Clarke follows in the footsteps of Matt Penney and Connor Kirby, who both committed their futures to the club last week.

Fresh from signing his Wednesday contract, the 17-year-old said: “I’m over the moon that I have got my contract early.

“I’ve been here for five years and this is the place I want to be. This is the first hurdle and I’ve still got a long way to go.

“It’s great that Sheffield Wednesday have the belief in me to give me a professional contract.

“Now I need to push myself as far as I can go. Everybody goes through good times and bad times along the way but I’ve always believed in myself and that I could get to this point.”

Clarke – who recently scored a delightful chip in the Under-18s’ 3-2 win over Leeds United – continued:

“I’m a box-to-box midfielder and like to get on the ball, play it simple and get a goal when I can. I’ll work as hard as possible for the team and that’s the most important thing.

“The first few years I wasn’t the loudest in the dressing room but the staff here have helped me gain confidence and become more dominant on the pitch.

“Dean Ramsdale and Steven Haslam have helped me so much to get to where I am today and I want to thank them for that.”
