The club’s Community Programme is working to encourage inactive people to get into sport and physical exercise and is looking to recruit around 16 participants to take part.
The 12-week course, named the ‘Steel City Fit Club’, will take place over 12 months and participants will enjoy low-impact, football-related fitness sessions at Hillsborough and Bramall Lane. Former Owls striker John Pearson will be leading the Hillsborough sessions.
Priced at just £2, the sessions start from Tuesday 27 October at 10am – 12pm in the Sheridan Suite at Hillsborough Stadium and will run every Tuesday for 12 weeks.
After receiving £40,000 funding from Sport England and Sporta, The Sheffield City Trust is working in partnership with the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme and the Sheffield United Community Foundation to deliver four 12-week fitness courses.
As well as a fun and engaging the sessions will educate the participants on how to lead a healthy lifestyle and maintain their fitness upon completion of the course.
The course, which comes under Sport England and Sporta’s ‘Make Your Move’ programme, aims to get more women, older people and inactive groups into sport.
Each person who takes part will receive a free lifeCARD, enabling them to save money on health and fitness-related activities around Sheffield.
