Wednesday could welcome back Fernando Forestieri for the clash with Preston, while the Owls will wait on Daniel Pudil.
Owls dangerman Forestieri was cup-tied for the Newcastle clash but ruled out in any case due to a hamstring injury.
The same problem saw Forestieri miss out at Brentford last weekend but the 25-year-old has resumed full training.
Meanwhile, Pudil was withdrawn moments before the interval at Griffin Park last Saturday, also with a hamstring injury, and on the duo Carlos Carvalhal said:
“Forestieri is training normal, Pudil we don’t know yet.
“Pudil has been in light training and it is possible but we don’t know in this moment if he can play or not on Saturday.
“We will see what happens after Friday. On Wednesday this week, Forestieri did part of the training to protect him.
“Thursday he did normal training, absolutely normal training. We will see whether he has a good reaction.
“If he feels good and feels fit then we will be able to see whether he can be in the 18.”
