A local football team enjoyed our last home game against Preston after they formed part of Sheffield Wednesday’s Grassroots Community Programme Scheme’s matchday activities.
14 youngsters from local team St Helen’s FC took part in matchday activities including training with Sheffield Wednesday coaches at Middlewood Road, waving the giant flag at half time and walking around the pitch.
St. Helen’s coach Wayne Dennett said: “All of the boys had a wonderful day and they were looked after from the moment they arrived until the final whistle by the community staff. The highlight of the day was definitely the tour of the stadium and it gave the team a real insight into the life of a professional footballer. The training session at Middlewood road was also great fun and the kids learnt a lot.
"The experience of walking out on the pitch in front of more than 20,000 people was something they will never forget.”
The Grassroots Community Programme Scheme invites groups of youngsters of all backgrounds to engage with Sheffield Wednesday, who offer significant benefits via the project in return, including discounted match tickets with cashback for junior clubs and money can’t buy experiences on the Hillsborough pitch.
For just £20, junior participants enjoy a range of matchday activities as well as a South Stand ticket, copy of the official programme and refreshments for the juniors.
