Wednesday stretched their unbeaten run to seven games as they shared the spoils from a goalless draw with QPR in West London.
Clear openings were few for both sides in a contest punctuated by a big talking point on the stroke of half time.
Rangers skipper Clint Hill appeared to trip Modou Sougou when the wideman was about to go one on one with goalkeeper Rob Green but the referee deemed the tackle as fair.
To compound matters for the Owls, Sougou was stretchered off after a lengthy stay on the turf with what appeared a shoulder injury.
That aside, the Championship clash lacked real incident, although after bossing the early exchanges, QPR might have found themselves in trouble when a defensive slip allowed Fernando Forestieri to burst goalwards but the Italian lost his footing himself and the break was thwarted.
Rangers responded with Tjarron Chery firing a volley just wide before Tom Lees deflected a Massimo Luongo drive past the post.
The Owls showed more with half time approaching but suffered that double blow just before the whistle when Sougou was stopped in his tracks by Hill, who was adjudged to have fairly prevented the Frenchman homing in on goal.
Sougou stayed down and left the field on a stretcher to warm applause from all four sides of Loftus Road.
Wednesday introduced Lucas Joao at half time and the young striker almost had a stunning impact on 55 minutes, bustling his way past two defenders only for Paul Konchesky to intervene with a crucial challenge at the last.
Matt Phillips then smashed inches over the crossbar at the other end before the same player spurned the best chance of the game with 20 minutes to go, hitting high over the crossbar after finding space in the penalty area.
Keiren Westwood came to the Owls’ rescue on 80 minutes, denying Chery from point-blank range at the far post as the hosts finished the stronger, but Wednesday nearly took the points in stoppage time with Barry Bannan shooting wide of the far post following a rapid counter.
Owls: Westwood, Palmer, Loovens, Semedo, Nuhiu, McGugan (Lee 69), Lees, Wiggins, Sougou (Wallace 45), Bannan, Forestieri (Joao 46)
