Leading Spanish low-cost airline Vueling has announced it will commence scheduled services from Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) to their major hub in Barcelona in spring 2016, giving Owls fans greater scope to visit one of the popular cities in the world.

LBA and Sheffield Wednesday announced a new partnership this summer, with the Owls aligning to the largest airport in Yorkshire.

And from March 2016, Vueling will operate twice-weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays, cementing LBA’s status as a leading airport brand.

The Friday flights will allow convenient connections across the airline’s extensive Spanish route network to destinations such as Madrid, Seville, Valencia and Bilbao.

The schedule will also allow passengers to take advantage of weekend break opportunities in Barcelona alongside offering the corporate traveller a weekday business schedule.

Tony Hallwood, Aviation Development Director of LBA, said: “We welcome the addition of Vueling as LBA's newest carrier and this announcement is great news for Sheffield and the Yorkshire region.

“With great customer service and competitive fares, the airline will be welcomed by both business and leisure travellers. We expect that Sheffield will become a popular destinations for inbound Spanish visitors once Leeds Bradford becomes a new UK gateway for the airline."

Richard Wright, Executive Director at Sheffield Chamber of Commerce added: "The business benefits of this scheduled service are unarguable. Europe is still our biggest trading partner and it is very important that we continue to build quick and easy links to the places we do business with.

“Spain is definitely one of those and will be for many years to come."

Wednesdayites can watch out for some exciting offers from LBA in the near future!
