Preston is the most important game

1 October 2015

While the Capital One Cup clash with Premier League giants Arsenal in late October inevitably hogs the headlines, Carlos Carvalhal is keeping his focus firmly on the Championship as the Owls host Preston on Saturday.

The Gunners cup-tie may well capture the imagination of the fan base and media alike but the head coach refuses to look beyond this weekend as Wednesday aim for four successive wins.

He said: “The most important game for me is always the next one and that is Preston, not Arsenal.

“Of course, I understand the excitement of playing Arsenal, they are a big Premier League club and the night will be a big one for Sheffield Wednesday.

“But I do not wish to talk about that game because as far as I am concerned, the biggest game we have next is Preston.

“We want to keep our good results going but as with any game in the Championship, this will be tough.

“I can tell you now that the talk of the dressing room is Preston, as it has been all week.”

Carvalhal also expressed his happiness at being back on home soil following two games out of base, at Newcastle and Brentford respectively.

He added: “We are always pleased to be playing at our home of Hillsborough, we are in a happy environment which puts positive pressure on the team.

“Our fans have been fantastic this season and as always, we want to see as many of them inside Hillsborough as possible creating the atmosphere they do.”
