Palmer hails Owls' strength in depth

24 September 2015

Wednesday made ten changes for the midweek cup victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

And after knocking the Premier League side out of the competition, Liam Palmer says it shows the Owls’ strength in depth.

The visitors were rewarded for a fantastic display with a 1-0 victory and passage through to the next round where they will face Arsenal at Hillsborough.

“The gaffer gave us a game-plan, he wanted us to be disciplined and we got our reward,” Palmer said.

“It’s nice to get into the fourth round, we knew we could come to these type of places and push teams and I’m glad we could go on to get the win.

“It shows the strength in depth we have that we can make changes and perform like we did. That will stand us in good stead going forward this season.

“We’re all in this together and whether it’s me or Jack Hunt at right back, we wish each other the best and that’s the dynamic the staff and management want.

“If you are not playing, you need to keep training hard and when you do get your chance, you have to be ready because anything can happen.”

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brentford in the Championship, Palmer believes the whole group can take plenty of confidence and satisfaction from their display at St James’ Park.

He added: “They have good quality and we knew if we could frustrate them early on, we could get the crowd to turn because they are having a tough time at the minute.

“Now we will go again and anything can happen in this competition. Hopefully we can kick on and keep picking up these wins.”
