For the second time in four days, Wednesday turned in an impressive performance on the road and on this occasion emerged with a point.
Frustration was the name of the game on Saturday against Burnley, and facing Bolton on Tuesday night, the Owls were again in charge for much of the game but had something to show for their efforts following a 0-0 draw.
The clean sheet was welcome, but Wednesday came close to taking maximum points, missing clear cut opportunities in the early stages.
Fernando Forestieri had a sight of goal inside two minutes but slipped at the vital time moments before Marco Matias fashioned a clear opening from a Jack Hunt cross but Lawrie Wilson was on the line to clear.
It was a bright beginning by Wednesday and on ten minutes Matias went one on one with Ben Amos after a splitting Barry Bannan ball only for the keeper to come out on top.
Bolton had their moments, though, and not least midway through the first half when Wellington Silva burst in on goal but Tom Lees timed his block tackle to perfection.
Derik Osede then clipped the crossbar from a Liam Feeney corner but the Owls were soon back on top and Amos had to show good agility to deny Kieran Lee, who sent a fierce shot goalwards to cap a mazy run.
But the Trotters were far from overwhelmed and hit back with Silva forcing a fine instinctive save from Joe Wildsmith ten minutes before half time.
The second period started in a similar fashion to the first and Forestieri went close with a dinked effort that beat Amos but also the crossbar.
But again a big chance followed at the other end, with ex-Owl Gary Madine heading a gilt-edged chance over after good approach work from the home side.
The contest continued with much of the play in the Bolton half, although Wednesday were less proficient in the final third as the second period unfolded.
The latter stages were relatively even as Stephen Dobbie went close for Bolton, as did Lucas Joao for the Owls, and overall it was probably the hosts more satisfied with the draw.
Wednesday: Wildsmith, Turner, Hutchinson (Lopez 77), Matias (Sougou 66), Nuhiu (Joao 73), Lees, Lee, Hunt, Pudil, Bannan, Forestieri
