Wednesday’s recent defensive resilience has seen the club break one record this week and move a step closer to another.
Four successive clean sheets away from home set a new record and took the tally to 15 for the season – two short of the overall club record for a single campaign.
But Carlos Carvalhal says nothing has changed with regard his football philosophies and although delighted with the strength of the Owls’ rearguard, the head coach says his primary focus is winning games and entertaining.
He explained: “I never said that I like to take goals, I said I prefer to win 5-4 than 1-0 and I still say the same.
“If you don’t do mistakes on the defensive side of the game then I am happy but not all the goals belong to defensive mistakes, it can be the quality of the opponent.
“If the quality of the opponent can do five goals against us and if our quality can do six, then I prefer to win 6-5 than 1-0.
“But if you ask me do I like not to concede any goals then of course I like it. But to be happy we must score the minimum of one goal to win because our first priority is to win the games.
“I am here in the role of the coach, I am not a defender anymore and this is my philosophy. I like to do goals and play attractive football and for my players to express the talent they have.”
During the pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Blackburn, he added:
“The players deserve what they are living at the moment, they have been fantastic, all of them.
“All of them are improving, they are better players with better value in this moment individually because the collective is working.”
