Marco is ready

19 April 2016

Carlos Carvalhal says Marco Matias has fully adapted to English football and is 100% ready for action.

The Portuguese hit the ground running at Hillsborough in the summer, scoring an award-winning strike against Leeds and was a regular in the Owls’ matchday squad.

Injury halted his progression and Matias didn’t feature for the Owls between September and late January but now back in the fold, the head coach says the forward is in a good place.

“He is ready. When he arrived we played a different system and he adapted very well, after his injury it was difficult to him but I can say he is 100% adapted and ready and this is a good moment for him.”

His wonder strike against Leeds at Elland Road back in August was crowned as the Mitre Goal of the Year at the Football League Awards in Manchester this week.

Of the goal, Carlos added: “It’s something beautiful in football. The most beautiful thing in football to the people is to see the goals.

“Marco scored a fantastic goal in the season but we have more players who have scored fantastic goals also.

“We will do a video at the end of the season and we will have some very nice images of the fantastic goals that we have scored.

“This one was fantastic. When we saw all these goals, we are lucky, I am a lucky guy because I saw them live. All of us are happy for Marco.”
