Rising to the challenge

17 April 2016

Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal says he laid down a challenge to Fernando Forestieri right back at the beginning of his Wednesday career.

The 26-year-old completed his switch to Hillsborough in August 2015, at which time Carvalhal challenged the forward to have the best season of his career.

On that front, the Owls ace has certainly risen to the challenge.

With 15 goals on the tally following his latest strike on Saturday against Ipswich, Forestieri has already far surpassed his previous best in England, which stood at eight goals for Watford in the 2012/13 and 2013/14 campaigns.

Carlos said: “When we brought him to the club we knew what he could do and we challenged him to do the best season of his career and I think he is doing that.

“He is helping the team, the team are helping him and of course we are happy with him but not just with him, with all the players.

“We are in a better position now than before the game because now, we have four rounds to play.

“We are now just focused on the game on Tuesday, it is an important one for us because it is the next game. It will be tough but we will be ready to fight for the three points.”
