Fernando Forestieri scored the all-important goal to seal victory at the John Smith’s Stadium but post-match, the emphasis from the 26-year-old was firmly on the team.
Forestieri – now on 14 goals for the campaign, the most prolific season of his career – says his achievements in front of goal would not be possible without his team mates.
Lucas Joao provided a wonderful assist for Forestieri to slide the ball home at the back stick to snatch a late victory over Huddersfield and after the game he said:
“I’m so happy but when I score, I say in every interview if it wasn’t for my team mates, I can’t score these goals.
“So I want to say thank you to them. At Huddersfield it was Lucas, if he didn’t run for me then I don’t score the goal.
“I think we had every player playing so good, we are all together and I think every single player played very well.”
Wednesday have little time to let the dust settle on the Yorkshire derby success with a home clash against Blackburn coming up on Tuesday.
Up to fifth in the Championship after the 1-0 win over the Terriers, Forestieri added:
“It’s good for me because now I have scored 14 but it’s thanks to the group for sure. Now it’s important we keep trying to improve with every game and look forward to Blackburn on Tuesday.”
