Under-21s take derby honours

22 April 2016

The Owls’ Under-21s beat local rivals Sheffield United 2-0 at Hillsborough on Friday.

First half goals from Caolan Lavery and Jack Stobbs were enough to seal victory as the hosts dominated much of the derby clash.

Wednesday started well, with Stobbs brushing the side-netting with a free kick from 25 yards.

Stobbs went close again moments later, cutting inside and firing just wide from distance.

The Owls continued in the ascendancy as Nathan Lowe almost opened the scoring before Lavery did exactly that on 14 minutes, powering home a header from Elliott Percival’s cross.

Wednesday then doubled their lead six minutes before the break. Alex O’Hanlon whipped in an inviting feed for Stobbs to volley home from close range.

The Owls had a chance to put the game out of sight early in the second half when Ryan Croasdale went down in the box but Lavery missed the target from the penalty spot.
