We know what we must do

Avoid defeat to Cardiff on Saturday and a place in the play-offs will be secured with one game remaining.

Wednesday could guarantee their top six finish by picking up a point at Hillsborough against their only threat to sixth position.

As the build-up begins for the clash with the Bluebirds, Keiren Westwood says all focus is on Saturday.

“The game with Cardiff is Saturday and we are all just looking forward to that," he said.

“We’re at home and it will be up to us to take the game to them and I’m sure we will do.

“It doesn’t matter how you get in there, you just want to get in there so we are focused on doing the job against Cardiff.”

There has been plenty to celebrate and savour this season for Wednesday in Carlos Carvalhal’s maiden campaign at the club.

The Owls are firmly in the play-off mix with a four-point gap over seventh-placed Cardiff, have advanced in cup competitions with eye-catching results, have scored numerous goals which in their own right are contenders for goal of the season and are one clean sheet shy of equalling a club record.

On that point, Westwood added: “I’m not really looking at that to be honest, I’m more looking towards securing our place in the play-offs, so if we win 2-1 it won’t make a difference to me.

“We have got the quality to score goals. If we make it into the play-offs it will be a lottery and I know this team will give absolutely everything.”
