Can’t wait to get started

17 August 2016

Experienced midfielder David Jones says he can’t wait to get going with the Owls after his move from Burnley was confirmed earlier this week.

The 31-year-old is eligible to make his debut for Wednesday in the Yorkshire derby with Leeds this weekend.

Keen to begin a new chapter in his career after success with Burnley over the past three years, Jones told swfc.co.uk:

“It’s a great opportunity that I wanted to take and I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“I discussed the move with my family, was really impressed with the team last season and exciting things are happening here so it’s good to have the opportunity.

“Obviously the team last year got to the play-off final which is a great achievement but the club wants to progress further and experience in this league counts for a lot.”

Jones has been promoted to the Premier League four times with previous clubs; twice with Burnley, and before with Derby and Wolves.

He continued: “There is good experience in this team now. That’s what you need but it takes a number of things including, of course, good players and team spirit. That is vital.

“You need a team where when you’re not playing well you still manage to get results, that’s a key thing. You can’t play well every week.

“If you have got the glue that’s keeps the team together, then you can pick up wins and points you maybe don’t deserve.”

And looking ahead to the weekend clash with Leeds, Jones added: “What a big game to look forward to and I’ll be doing my best to be involved and get started.”
