Carlos Carvalhal says Wednesday are stronger ahead of Saturday’s highly-anticipated Yorkshire derby at Hillsborough.

With Leeds the visitors, the environment will be one to savour and the head coach says it will be a key factor in the Owls’ quest for three points.

After the midweek defeat at Burton, Wednesday can welcome back Tom Lees into the fold, while new recruit David Jones is eligible.

Happy with the options available and the shape of his squad, Carlos said: “We have an experienced team. The players have played in plenty of derbies in their careers.

“We know what we must do in this game. Derbies are tough around the world. The emotion is high. The energy with our fans at Hillsborough makes a big difference and I believe we can do well.

“In this moment we are more strong than last season in the beginning, we are completely rested and ready for this game and like I said before, we want our fans with us.

“After one game where we are not successful, you want to play in another one as soon as possible and it’s good that we are playing in a derby of Yorkshire. We want to react very fast.

“We want a good environment for our players and I am absolutely sure that with a big performance and a big fight we will have that, absolutely sure.”

Garry Monk’s side will come to Hillsborough looking for their first victory of the campaign and on the Whites he added:

“They have a new coach, new ideas and new players comparing with last season. They are starting a process like we started last season.”
