Hooper set for Carrow Road return

12 August 2016

The setting will be a familiar one this weekend for ex-Norwich striker Gary Hooper.

The 28-year-old spent over two years at Carrow Road before moving out on loan to Wednesday in October 2015 and making the switch permanent in January 2016.

Hooper scored 20 goals in total for the Canaries and played a big part in their return to the Premier League in 2014/15, chipping in with 12 goals in a season that saw the club promoted via the play-offs.

Saturday’s televised clash will be Hooper’s first return to his old stomping ground since the opening day of last season.

“I always look forward to going back to my old clubs,” he said.

“It should be good at Norwich. I have stayed in touch with quite a few of the boys. We will speak before the game but there won’t be any sentiment on the day."

Like Wednesday, Norwich made a winning start to their campaign, easing past Blackburn Rovers, 4-1 at Ewood Park.

With a fantastic atmosphere anticipated ahead of the Canaries’ first home fixture, Hooper continued:

“There is no doubt it will be a hard game.

“I’m not sure what sort of reaction I’m going to get from the Norwich fans. They were good with me so hopefully I’ll get a good reception.”
