Making the difference

19 August 2016

Carlos Carvalhal has hailed the fantastic support the Owls have received at Hillsborough since his head coach appointment, leading to an impressive record of just two home defeats from 28 competitive games.

A long and almost uninterrupted run of resistance, including memorable occasions such as the ‘Hillsborough lights’ play-off win over Brighton and League Cup triumph over Premier League giants Arsenal, would not have been possible without the S6 faithful, said Carlos:

“We have done very well, but this record belongs to our fans, our fans make the difference at Hillsborough, the environment they create is a huge threat to our opponents.

“When they are pushing the team and helping the players, we are able to play at our highest level from the first minute and we’re expecting exactly the same on Saturday against Leeds United.”

Carvalhal, now into his second campaign leading the Owls, recalled several key occasions at Hillsborough when the supporters have served as the team’s driving force.

He added: “I remember saying how much of an impact our supporters were last season after games such as Cardiff, Brighton and in the play-off final they were amazing….and now this season also against Aston Villa in our first match.

“Our support has been fantastic both home and away and I hope the fans will do the same on Saturday because this will be crucial in deciding the outcome of the game.”
