Progressing the team

11 August 2016

For a second week running in the Sky Bet Championship, the Owls are set to go head to head with one of the favourites for promotion.

The Owls collected a welcomed three-point haul on the opening day of the campaign against recently relegated Aston Villa.

Norwich, a favourite to make an immediate return to the top flight following their drop last term, are next-up for Wednesday.

While Carlos Carvalhal acknowledges the difficulties that lay ahead for his side at Carrow Road, he remains confident with the progress the Owls are making.

“We gave strong signals to what we can do against Aston Villa,” he explained. “We are with better abilities, this means that we are progressing the team.

“We believe we can progress more in some things. But we started our work one year ago with the big things of the team, to try to create a philosophy, to try to create big principles.

“We started this new season caring about the little things, particular things, so it means we are more near day by day exactly what we want.”

The Canaries head into Saturday’s early evening kick-off in front of the Sky Sports cameras as favourites.

The game will be their first of the new campaign at home after last weekend’s 4-1 win over Blackburn on the road.

Carlos continued: “We have the same pressures. When I say that Norwich are the favourites that does not mean we don’t have our natural pressure.

“Our natural pressure is the pressure for us to win games, it’s not pressure because we are worse or better than our opponents.

“We said before that the favourites to this competition are the three teams that got relegated, it’s absolutely normal.

“But let’s see, let’s play and see what we can do. We are not an easy opponent to anybody, we’ll be with good support even though it is far away.

“Let’s play our football and see what we can do.”
