Setting challenges and achieving goals

3 August 2016

Midfield maestro Kieran Lee will enter the 2016/17 season with fresh aims and targets.

Lee – who extended his contract with the Owls over the summer – has become a key player and fan favourite since joining the club in May 2012.

Since then, the 28-year-old has scored 14 goals in total, of which seven came in 2015/16.

One of the midfielder’s aims to surpass that tally this time around as he told swfc.co.uk:

“I set myself personal challenges and goals have become a big part of my role in the team.

“It would be nice to improve on the number I scored last season. Hopefully I can get to double figures this season.”

Ready to go again after a successful pre-season campaign, Wednesday welcome Aston Villa for the season opener on Sunday.

And following on from the achievements of last season, Lee is keen for the Owls to hit the ground running this weekend and he continued:

“People might think they know what they’re going to get from us this season and are a little more wary of us because of what we achieved.

“But we believe in ourselves as a group of players that we can achieve our goals.

“We have that same belief but we know the league is tough, just like it is every year.

“Clubs the size of Aston Villa, who have come down from the Premier League, don’t make things any easier, but we will do what we do and remain confident in our own abilities.

“It’s a tough game to start with but also being in front of the TV cameras gives us the opportunity to make a big statement.”
