New recruit David Jones is looking forward to a long and happy career with the Owls having made his S6 bow last weekend.

And although Wednesday went down to local rivals Leeds, Jones is confident the squad can regroup and make positive strides up the Championship table.

The former Burnley midfielder debuted against the Whites, coming on from the bench just after the hour on Saturday.

He told swfc.co.uk: “I hope it was the first appearance of many in a Wednesday shirt. It was great to get on the pitch in front of almost 30,000 and play for the team with the majority of fans in the stadium.

“We were 1-0 down at the time and we were chasing for an equaliser and I got on the ball a few times but ultimately they hit us on the break and it wasn’t to be.”

Jones stressed the need to now look forward, starting with Brentford in the Championship on Saturday.

He added: “The training this week has been focused on putting it right and getting a result at Brentford.

“I want to start the game, of course I do, like all the lads. We have a lot of talent for the shirts in midfield and everyone will have to fight hard to play.”
