A unique division

In a league as unique as the Sky Bet Championship, Carlos Carvalhal says you never know exactly what to expect from each fixture.

Last time out, the Owls defeated Rotherham with almost the last action of the game in stoppage time at Hillsborough.

The Millers, who are cut adrift at the foot of the table, made life difficult for the Owls who ultimately came out on top in the derby clash, with Steven Fletcher’s late penalty the difference.

Wednesday are set for a completely different challenge on Boxing Day, facing top of the table Newcastle and Carlos said:

“In this competition we never know if it will be more difficult to play against the team last in the table or if it will be more difficult to play against the first of the table.

“We never know because this competition is very hard, everyone gives different problems and Newcastle will present different problems to us.

“They won’t put the same kind of problems Rotherham put to us.

“Rotherham put a lot of difficulties to us, they were solid, compact, we needed creativity, we did a lot of crosses but they were very strong in the air. At Newcastle, it will be different but we will be ready for this game.”

The Owls’ pre-match press conference will take place on Friday morning at Middlewood Road.
