Owls captain Glenn Loovens has stressed the importance of the fans in tomorrow’s South Yorkshire derby.

Wednesday host neighbours Barnsley under the lights at Hillsborough on Tuesday and the skipper has said the home support will be crucial from the word go.

“We know how much these games matter to the supporters, the players are aware of their responsibilities and believe me, the boys are looking forward to this game.

“What we need more than anything is for the fans to get right behind us from the first minute, as they always do.

“We have had some special nights at Hillsborough, probably some of the most special of my career.

“When the supporters get going here, it is a place like no other. It makes a big difference, the atmosphere, the singing, the support and we’ll need that every step of the way.”
