Loovens expects hard-fought derby

16 December 2016

Wednesday skipper Glenn Loovens expects another hard-fought South Yorkshire derby on Saturday.

Loovens described the victory over Barnsley this week as ‘intense’ and believes Rotherham will present an equally tough challenge.

“Sometimes it’s the sides at the bottom that can fight the hardest and make it the most difficult for you to play against so I expect a very hard game,” he said.

“It was very important for us to bounce back and it was nice that the win came in a derby as well.

“Every game is important but the fact it was a derby made it more special.

“The team is in a good way, it was an intense game against Barnsley so we have to make sure we get rested up well for tomorrow.”

The Millers prop up the Championship table and have lost 10 of their 11 league fixtures away from home but the captain is anticipated a strong derby test and added:

“It’s going to be a hard game there’s no doubt about that. They are fighting for survival, it’s another derby so there will be extra tension on the game.”
