Much more to come

Tom Lees says Wednesday have plenty more gears to climb into as we head into the second half of the Championship campaign.

The Owls emerged victorious from a frustrating clash against strugglers Rotherham on Saturday with Steven Fletcher’s 94th minute penalty the difference.

The defender believes that win will give extra confidence to the team, who sit sixth in the table around the halfway stage.

“We were very relieved because it was obviously a fixture we were expected to win, the onus was on us to take the game to them.

“It was a great penalty, we know Pricey is good at penalties from his time here but Fletch hit it so sweet and into the side-netting, so it was fantastic.

“Realistically, we need to win these games so it is job done in that respect but now we have a really tough game on Boxing Day, so we get ready for that.”

Wednesday are back in action next Monday, in the televised Boxing Day clash with league leaders Newcastle at St James’ Park.

In what will be one of the Owls’ biggest tests of the season against the in-form Magpies, who have won their last three league games on the spin, Lees says Wednesday will travel north with confidence, adding:

“There is a feeling around the place that there is so much more to come from us. We just have to keep improving each week and every win will give us confidence.”
