Owls fully focused on Millers clash

15 December 2016

Carlos Carvalhal insists that Wednesday must be 100% focused and ready to give the right answers in their second South Yorkshire derby of the week.

Having overcome a tough Barnsley side at Hillsborough on Tuesday, the Owls are now preparing to face near neighbours Rotherham on Saturday.

Despite the Millers’ predicament at the foot of the Sky Bet Championship table, Carlos says this weekend’s opposition are not to be underestimated and explained:

“It is another derby, they are very important to the fans and they are important to us so we want to give a good answer in all the moments of the game.

“It will be different to Tuesday. They play very different to Barnsley, who play with a style of fast attack, dangerous from set pieces and open up the game which is why they score a lot of goals.

“Rotherham are more solid, more compact, they are a threat in attack but in a different way to Barnsley.

“We understand what they will do, we respect them a lot but we will be ready for the game and to fight for the three points.”

Assessing the visitors this weekend, the Owls head coach believes Rotherham are a different proposition since caretaker boss Paul Warne took charge.

The Millers picked up their first win in 16 in their home clash with QPR last weekend before being narrowly edged out at Fulham in midweek.

Carlos added: “We know what to expect, they have changed some things especially in the last two games, they are more strong in this moment and we respect that.

“All the teams have attributes and weak points, we must try to explore the weak points and block the strong and we do the same in all the games.

“We are 100% focused on the game and we’ll play with the same attitude and same soul.”
