There are many factors that come together to form a successful side competing at any level in football.
At Hillsborough, this is no different and with five wins from six, including the superb display at Newcastle on Boxing Day, Carlos Carvalhal is happy with his side’s progress at the halfway stage.
In particular, the head coach has discussed the team spirit and the big personalities in the dressing room and explained:
“We have a really good team spirit, personalities and we know the players we have inside our house.
“For example when we bring a player like Callum McManaman here, we know him very well, we know all the details but we ask a lot about the personality.
“We want good personalities inside the team because if you have a lot of good individual personalities in the team, it makes for a good team personality.
“In this moment we have a team with a really good spirit, there is a vibe between the players.”
Explaining further, Carlos highlighted the qualities of club captain Glenn Loovens and popular midfielder Jose Semedo – both playing very different but very important roles.
He continued: “I must tell you, it helps a lot with the likes of the captain Glenn Loovens and the behaviour of him because he is a very good captain of the team.
“It helps a lot being with a player like Semedo because, play or not play, he is a good example to everybody.
“He pushes everybody to work so I’m very happy with him, he goes to all the games with us, even if he is not involved he is all the time on the list because we need these positive personalities.
“This is what we like at Sheffield Wednesday.”
