This is my moment

26 December 2016

Having scored his maiden goal for the Owls, skipper Glenn Loovens relived the moment that saw his side secure a stunning success at table-topping Newcastle.

Loovens nodded a second half winner and could barely keep the smile from his face addressing the media after a match that saw Wednesday pass their Toon test with flying colours.

He said: “It’s been a long time coming but well worth the wait.

“Their goalkeeper pulled off a great save from Tom Lees and luckily for me, Nando headed it back across and the ball landed right in front of my head.

“I thought ‘this is my moment’ and headed it in. I was a bit unsure what to do when I scored because it doesn’t happen too often!”

Loovens was full of praise for his team mates and supporters as the Owls cemented their play-off berth with the Championship campaign at its halfway point.

He said: “The boys were tremendous, we fought for every ball and created chances too

“Newcastle is a hard place to come to and they are top of the league as well so that makes the win extra special, it makes you extra motivated.

“I also have to congratulate our supporters for making the trip on Boxing Day and I am so pleased they are going home with smiles on their faces.”
