A warm exhibition on a cold day

13 February 2016

Following the Owls’ 4-0 win over Brentford, Carlos Carvalhal described the game as a winter warmer for Wednesdayites.

The hosts dominated the match in cold conditions at Hillsborough after Brentford went down to ten men early on.

Yoann Barbet received his marching orders for bringing down Gary Hooper when the striker was one on one with David Button.

Goals from Fernando Forestieri, Gary Hooper, Kieran Lee and Lucas Joao provided the Owls with a comfortable win to move the hosts up to fifth in the Championship.

Carvalhal said: “The match was a warm exhibition on a cold day.

“When Brentford had a player sent off it could have been difficult for us because the opposition can become compact.

“But we controlled the speed of the match and we worked very hard to get the ball back when we didn’t have it.

“It was another good team performance and I am very happy with all of the players because they all contributed to the win.”

The Owls are the form team in the division but Carvalhal is adamant the only important thing is the next game.

The head coach added: “I don’t look at who other teams are playing.

“I don’t care about results of the other teams because the only way we can achieve things is to focus on us.

“I always focus on the short term and now the next game is Preston, so all we think about is this.”
