Earn a place

4 February 2016

Aiden McGeady says it’s up to him to earn a place in the Owls’ squad.

With Wednesday riding high in the Championship and looking to break into the play-offs, McGeady is well aware of the competition for places.

But eager to impress and show his ability, the Everton loanee is confident he can make his mark at the club.

“It’s been a tough five or six months,” he said. “I have played a few times for Ireland in substitute appearances.

“But I just want to get back playing football and enjoy it again. I want to enjoy the next four or five months, take them as they come and see what happens after that.”

He continued: “The team has been doing well and it will be down to me to get myself into the team.

“I’m confident in my ability and now I just want to help the team and get playing.”

With Euro 2016 on the horizon and ambitions to feature for the Republic of Ireland in the summer, McGeady is first and foremost out to impress at Hillsborough and said:

“I’ve been out of the picture at Everton, we have the Euros coming up and I have to be playing and playing well to make the final squad.

“The manager couldn’t justify picking me if I wasn’t playing so I’m happy to be here and I want to do well and help the club move forwards.”
