Foot to the floor time for Owls

19 February 2016

Wednesday’s hot form has seen the club rise into the promotion-chasing pack but nothing can be taken for granted, was the message from defender Vincent Sasso.

The league table positively reflects Wednesday’s recent run of form but Sasso is quick to point how quickly things can change with both good and bad form.

Wednesday were as low as 18th in the Sky Bet Championship in the early throes of the campaign but have rocketed up the division.

With 15 games still to play, plenty of twists and turns no doubt lay ahead and Sasso said:

“We can’t forget where we have come from but we are happy with where we are now.

“We need to keep doing what we are doing and not focus on the other teams, only focus on the things we can change.

“The next game is Preston, which is when we can next affect things in the Championship so it is our focus.”

While Wednesday have made headlines for goals scored, Sasso spoke of his delight at the way in which the club have been organised defensively.

That defensive work starts from the top with the Owls’ forwards and midfielders working hard to win back possession before the backline is called into action.

It is that determination and workrate that Sasso highlighted and he said:

“Everybody talks about the attack because we score a lot of goals but we are defending very well and that starts from the front.

“When we lose the ball everybody works hard to close down, make life hard, get back and that really helps.

“For me as well, Tom Lees is a really, really good player and one of the best in the league so it is easy to play alongside him.

“The communication is good, my English is better so everything is OK.”
