Strong Owls tame the Tigers

9 February 2016

The Owls Under-21s defeated Hull City 2-0 at the KC Stadium on Monday evening.

A first half strike from Marco Matias and a Stephen Akbas own goal after the break settled the Professional Development League 2 clash.

Wednesday named a strong line-up with Liam Palmer, Modou Sougou and Matias including in the starting XI.

The deadlock was broken just after 20 minutes when Matias pounced on a mistake at the back and fired the visitors in front.

There were chances for both sides after the break but it was Wednesday who extended their lead on 68 minutes.

Brad Beatson delivered a superb ball into the dangerzone and Hull defender Akbas diverted into his own net at the back stick.

Matias and Sougou both stored 76 minutes under their belt, while Palmer played 81 minutes at the KC.

Owls: McDonagh, Palmer (Booker 81), Beatson, Croasdale, De Havilland, Lee, Sougou (Penney 76), Meadows, King, Stobbs, Matias (Centeno 76)
