The ideal scenario

4 February 2016

Owls latest addition Aiden McGeady says Sheffield Wednesday were his number one destination and is delighted to have signed at Hillsborough.

The Everton man has penned a temporary deal until the end of the season.

His ambition is to play games and help the Owls move closer to their target of promotion to the Premier League.

He told swfc.co.uk: “It took a few days to get everything over the line but I’m delighted it worked out because I wanted to come here.

“The club has got aspirations to play in the Premier League, the team has had a good season so far and there’s a good chance of making the play-offs, if not having a good run and challenging for automatic promotion.

“That is the ideal scenario for me, to come here and hopefully help the team move towards that.”

With plenty of time left in 2015/16 for McGeady to make his mark, the ex-Celtic man has set his targets high and is out to reduce the gap to the automatic promotion positions.

Believing the Owls have the ability and talent to do just that, he continued:

“The way that the team plays suits me well. I could see that just from the first game the other night.

“Burnley are a side you would think have a great chance of promotion and are higher in the table but I thought we were the better team in the second half.

“It showed what we are capable of. There are still 17 games to go and a lot of points still to play for.”
