Carlos Carvalhal says his expectation is for the Owls to improve and get better as the season goes on.

Having started 2016 with four wins from four and six wins from the last seven games, Wednesday broke into the top six last weekend.

By defeating Fulham in the FA Cup almost two weeks ago, Wednesday avoided a potential replay and second trip of the season to Craven Cottage.

As a result, the fixture-free midweek has given opportunity for a good blend of rest, recovery and hard work on the training pitches as Carlos explained:

“We must analyse the process, why we are winning, why we are scoring goals and try to improve the team.

“All the time we are trying to improve the team.

“It is my expectation that with the time this week, with calm, we can improve little things that we are missing.

“In this moment, with the rest and work we have done with the players, we believe they can go to the game on Saturday in a better position both collectively and individually than the last game.”

The head coach was pleased by many aspects of the derby victory over Leeds last weekend and with extra preparation time this week, feels his side can take their performance level up another notch.

“Even in the last game, we played a good game but we can do even better,” he said. “We know we can play better.

“We have had a good period this week to work with the team. When we have this time to prepare the team, the answer is always good.”
