21s impress at Sandygate

19 July 2016

The Owls Under-21s recorded another convincing pre-season success on Monday evening, defeating Hallam FC 6-0 at Sandygate.

Goals from James Murphy, Sergiu Bus, Sean Clare, Darryl Lachman, Devante Rodney (pen) and an OG sealed the emphatic win for the Under-21s.

Wednesday began in the ascendancy and threatened to go in front after just five minutes when Bus went close with a header from Matt Penney’s corner.

The Owls maintained their dominance throughout the opening period and broke the deadlock five minutes before the interval as Murphy finished from close range from Clare’s accurate feed.

In the remaining few moments of the first half, the visitors were relentless in their search for goals and put the game out of reach with two quick-fire strikes.

Bus was on hand to finish from Jon Centeno’s cutback and two minutes later, Clare put Wednesday three goals to the good with an unstoppable finish high into the net.

An in-swinging Penney corner was met by a downward header from Lachman to make it 4-0 after the break and with the Owls well in their stride, a fifth came on 75 minutes as Rodney converted from the penalty spot.

Second half substitute Fraser Preston did superbly well on the right to deliver a dangerous cross that was diverted into the net via a Hallam defender to cap a good workout for the Owls youngsters.
