A fresh start

6 July 2016

New season, new hope, fresh optimism and a chance to go again - just a small number of reasons to look forward to 2016/17.

For midfield ace Barry Bannan, the coming campaign offers a fresh start after coming so close to reaching the top flight target less than six weeks ago at Wembley.

Ultimately, it wasn’t to be in 2015/16 but that has spurred Bannan and the rest of the Owls’ contingent to go one better this time around.

“You have to look past that now because it’s done and we have a big season ahead of us to look forward to,” Bannan said.

A big season and a big start ahead with a tasty-looking opening day fixture against the Scot’s former club Aston Villa live on Sky Sports.

That game cannot come soon enough for the 26-year-old, who is eager to get the boots back on and step out at Hillsborough.

He continued: “It’s good to be back and to get back into the swing of things. We’re coming back for a fresh season and a fresh start.

“Five or six weeks is a long time off so by the end of it you just want to get back.

“Last season we missed out at the last hurdle but we have got to build on that this season and try and get off to a better start.

“Hopefully we go one better this season.”
