Always on my mind

29 July 2016

Daniel Pudil has spoken of his delight having sealed a permanent switch back to Hillsborough.

The popular defender, who excelled with Wednesday on a season-long loan last time out, re-joined the Owls on Thursday in a double deal from Watford alongside schemer Almen Abdi.

And Pudil made it clear that S6 was his first choice destination amid interest from other clubs elsewhere.

He said: “I’m back and I’m happy to be back in Sheffield.

“Sheffield Wednesday was my first choice and in my head I knew I wanted to be here. I’m looking forward to some specials seasons with the club.

“It helps that I know the manager, the team and Sheffield and that helped me make the decision to come back.

“I have two children now who have settled here and I know everyone, which is a huge bonus.”

Previously on the books at Vicarage Road with Abdi, Pudil is confident his fellow new recruit can bring an extra dynamic to the team that came so close to promotion in 2015/16.

He said: “I’m happy to see Almen Abdi join us as well – I’m happy for him.

“He’s a very good player and has good power. I believe he can improve the team and bring something else to hopefully help us make even more progress.”

Looking ahead, Pudil is eagerly anticipating the start of the new season but has emphasised the need to take one step at a time in the wake of what will arguably be an added weight of expectation.

He added: “After last season the expectation may be a little higher but we will do our best to play the same football as last season.

“I think people will expect us to go one step further but we have to take each game at a time like we did last season and we will see what happens after 46 games.

“We have to stick together like we did last season – I believe we can do it. Aston Villa is a big game to start with but every game will be tough.”
