Another big step

16 July 2016

Carlos Carvalhal said the Owls had taken another significant step in their preparation for the new season after their 2-0 friendly win away against Chesterfield.

Kieran Lee opened the scoring for Wednesday before setting up Fernando Forestieri who doubled the lead for the Wednesday before half time.

Carvalhal said: “I am happy with what we did today.

“The offensive dynamic was very good and we made very few mistakes during the game.

“We have taken another big step to be more near where we want for the new season.

“Nothing is perfect and we know we can improve, but I am happy.”

The Owls fielded some younger players in the second half, with Jack Lee, Connor O’Grady, Jack Stobbs and George Hirst taking to the field, and Carvalhal was pleased with what the academy
products brought to the team.

He added: “We have given time to younger players who are 17, 18 and 19.

“We will see during the season if they get more chances, I will judge them on their quality and not their age.

“They are players with quality and they have done well.

“We are happy to give these players an opportunity as they are a big part of the future of Sheffield Wednesday.”
