High hopes for Owls youngsters

23 July 2016

A big positive for the Owls during the pre-season jaunt to Portugal has been the inclusion of a number of academy graduates and the progress they are making.

Along with the first team squad, young pros George Hirst, Connor O’Grady, Jack Lee, Sean Clare and Jack Stobbs have all travelled for the five-day Portuguese training camp.

Carlos Carvalhal says the quintet are with the group because of their abilities alone and has high hopes for them moving forward.

“We give attention to the boys to correct little things and also to improve them so they understand what we want,” he told the Owls’ official website.

“Really I have good expectations about these boys, they are boys at just 17 and 18-years-old with very good ability.

“We didn’t bring them to make up the numbers, we brought them because we want to try to push them.

“We can’t say for sure they will play this year or next year, but what I can say is that players will play if they have quality.

“It’s not about age. This group have quality and it’s good for the club that we have these boys with us.”
