Owls stepping up

14 July 2016

Sheffield Wednesday completed their first pre-season fixture in midweek, drawing 1-1 with Alftreton.

But Carlos Carvalhal is expecting a different kind of challenge on Saturday as his side face League 1 outfit Chesterfield (1.00pm).

With each pre-season contest bringing a new test, Carlos believes his players will benefit from the Spireites clash, and explained:

“We believe Chesterfield will play more in attack, they try to play a little more high but it’s not the result that is important but the process.

“We try to score goals and not take goals and we want to play with the teams that will put difficulties to us.

“But we are very happy at the moment. The body of the players is completely different because after one year they are ready to receive the way that we are training with them.

“This is something that we appreciate, we will be fit very fast I am sure but at the moment we are happy with everything.”

He added: “This is a process and I can say that in this moment we are better than where we were last season but we must work very hard of course inside and outside of the pitch.”
