With temperatures in the 30s, the Owls have kicked off their warm weather training at their Portugal base.

The squad began their morning workout early to avoid the blazing midday heat as Wednesday prepare for their friendly fixture with CD Nacional on Sunday (8.00pm).

Carlos Carvalhal’s men will also take part in a training exercise with Portimonense (6.00pm) on Monday before jetting back to England 24 hours later.

Carvalhal told swfc.co.uk: “The weather in England before we arrived was very warm but this is hotter still.

“But we here to work in these conditions, not to holiday, and to play some strong opponents, who are very good with the ball.

“This is very important to the way we play and we showed that when we played Benfica at Hillsborough.

“They are one of the top sides in the world and we gave a fantastic performance to beat them.

“But we know the result is not the most important thing – that is the challenge these teams bring and that we continue to progress with the process of pre-season.”
