We are ready

31 July 2016

Carlos Carvalhal insists the Owls are ready for the start of the new campaign after beating Port Vale 3-0 at Hillsborough in their final game of pre-season.

Tom Lees opened the scoring in the first half with a back post header before Fernando Forestieri doubled the lead with a volley from outside the box.

New signing Almen Abdi came on as a substitute for the second half and marked his debut with a goal, linking up well in a three-man move and finishing past Vale keeper Ryan Boot.

Carvalhal said: “We are ready to start the competition.

“We did some things very good today, the result is not important, it is about the process.

“Since the start of pre-season against Alfreton it was the start of the process and now are ready to get started.

“Today the offensive and defensive organisation was very good.”

Abdi joined Wednesday last week from Watford alongside Daniel Pudil, who made the permanent switch to Hillsborough following successful last year’s loan stint.

The head coach added: “These are two players I have wanted since the beginning.

“They are both hard working for the team which is exactly the sort of player we want at Sheffield Wednesday.

“Daniel was here last season it’s easier for him to learn the process.

“Abdi is a good player and was our first choice to bring in for that position and he will have to fight like everyone to get into the team.”
