Carlos Carvalhal was pleased with his side’s 1-0 over Benfica but highlighted that it was just a part of the process.
Fernando Forestieri’s first half goal was enough to beat the Portuguese champions at Hillsborough in what was an all-round strong performance from the Owls.
Carvalhal said: “Benfica are one of the best teams in Europe.
“We knew our defensive organisation had to be very good and I think we did very well.
“Our offensive organisation and the transition when we didn’t have the ball was also very good.
“Defending and attacking is down to the whole team and you can see that we look like a team.”
After beating the European giants, the Owls’ head coach said the team will not get carried away by this friendly win.
He added: “We won’t take too much sensation away from this game.
“If you tell me we will beat Aston Villa in the first game, then we will take more confidence from that.
“Tonight was a friendly and a good chance to see where we are at and what we can do.
“A lot of people support Benfica, they are an international team.
“It is good for the club that a lot of people will know Sheffield Wednesday because of this game.
“However, for us as a team, it is just another step in our process.”
