Former Owl Lee Peacock on track for charity bike challenge

17 June 2016

Former Owls striker Lee Peacock is set to take on a unique charity challenge that will see him travel from Bordeaux to Paris where he will stop off at 10 stadiums in just 10 days during this year’s UEFA European Championships.

The 39-year-old will be completing the challenge to raise money and awareness for Sheffield Charity Cavendish Cancer Care and the Southampton Hospitals Charity.

The former frontman, who played for the Owls from 2004 – 2006, chose to raise money for Cavendish Cancer Care in honour of Sheffield Wednesday fan Kris Travis who tragically died earlier this year.

Lee was part of the Sheffield Wednesday squad that won promotion from League One to Championship in the play-off final against Hartlepool United in 2005.

Lee said: “I chose the charity as I played in a celebrity football match for them last year where I met Kris. He was a patron of Cavendish Cancer Care and I was devastated to hear that he had passed away.

“When I met him he was thrilled as he was a huge Wednesday fan and wanted to chat all about my time at the club. He told me how much the charity meant to him and I decided to give something back this summer in his memory.”

Lee will start his challenge on Wednesday 29 June and will cover around 1,200km and stop off at 10 grounds which are holding a Euro 2016 fixture.
